Ninth Day of Chinese New Year
The ninth day of the Chinese New Year is a important day to Hokkiens and Teochews. They offer prayers to the Jade Emperor which traditionally is the birthday of the Jade Emperor. In Mandarin we call it "Bai Tian Gong" (Pray to the Jade Emperor). Come midnight of the eighth day of the new year, Hokkiens will offer thanks giving prayers to the Emperor of Heaven and you can hear fire crackers cracking at your neighborhood especially places like Klang, Penang and Johor.
